Katrina Fanning Shield Round Three Wrap

Plenty of exciting action in round three of the Specsavers Katrina Fanning Shield, with two teams notching up their first wins of the season while the Goulburn City Bulldogs remain undefeated.

UC Stars 18 d Harden Worhawks 4

The UC Stars claimed their first win of the 2021 season with an 18-4 win over the Harden Worhawks.

Despite playing the entire game with 11 players, Harden were very brave in defeat with their defence particularly impressive. They let in just one try during the second half.

The Stars were first on the scoreboard, with fullback Amanda Kyburz skipping past many defenders to plant the ball on the try-line.

UC extended their lead to 8-0 after winger Kiara Kennedy scored in the corner.

Harden bounced back through second-rower Rebecca Halls, who crashed over the line to score, closing the gap to 8-4.

Stars winger Caitlin King scored a four-pointer just before half-time, extending her side's lead to 12-4.

Both sides fought hard during the second half, with Harden's defence holding strong until UC prop Catherine Carling sealed the win with ten minutes to go, crashing over for a try.

Goulburn City Bulldogs 16 d Queanbeyan Blues 10

The Goulburn City Bulldogs remain unbeaten after three rounds, defeating the Queanbeyan Blues in the final few minutes of the clash.

With the scores locked at 10-10 with two minutes to go, Goulburn fullback Krystal Blackwell ran the length of the field to score the winning try under the posts, showing off her skill and speed.

The Blues had one final chance down the Bulldogs end, but Goulburn's defence was too good.

Goulburn jumped to an early 10-0 lead with Jennaya Ottaway and Charleen Grant both scoring tries in the opening 15 minutes.

The Blues hit back through winger Alanna Brooks, who stepped past two defenders to burst her way over the line. The Bulldogs maintained a 10-4 lead at the break.

Queanbeyan levelled the scores in the 52nd minute, after some great offloads by Jenna Ruiz and Cailah Welch allowed Payge-Louise Condon to cross for a four-pointer.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 36 d Boomanulla Raiders 4

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers recorded their first win with a 32 point victory over the Boomanulla Raiders.

Tuggeranong's attack looked dangerous, with the side scoring five second-half tries.

Amelia Kiriui and Maata Alai-Lokeni both scored doubles in the victory.

The Bushrangers lead 8-0 after 15 minutes, after tries to centre Alai-Lokeni and winger Renae Davis.

Boomanulla hit back with five-eighth Jacinta Geia crashing over the line for a try, closing the gap to 8-4.

But from there it was all the Bushrangers, with a Kiriui double and Felicity Bell, Zoe Podmore and Jasmine Castro all scoring.
