NSW Cup & Jersey Flegg Round 18 Preview

The Raiders NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg sides hit the road this weekend in round 18 action.

The NSW Cup side travel to Sydney to take on the Mounties at Aubrey Keech Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Raiders side has won four straight games, including an impressive 30-16 victory over the North Sydney Bears last weekend.

Utuloa Asomua and Ata Mariota both scored doubles in the win, while Emre Guler topped the run metres with 187.

The win proved costly however, with a number of injuries coming from the match. Harry Rushton will miss 8-10 weeks after undergoing surgery on a broken jaw. Trey Mooney injured his ankle in the win and will miss at least this weekend's game, while Semi Valemei injured his knee and will be out for one to two weeks.

Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad has been named as fullback in a big inclusion for the side, having played just six minutes against the Dragons in round 16 of the NRL.

Elijah Anderson shifts to the wing, with Steven Numambo the other winger.

Brad Morkos replaces Valemei in the centres, while Joshua James has been given the nod at five-eighth.

Mitchell Spencer and Clay Webb come into the starting side to replace Rushton and Mooney.

The Raiders currently sit in third place on the ladder, one point ahead of three other teams and two points behind the Jets in second place, so a win this week is crucial for the side to maintain a spot inside the top four.

The side take on the Mounties, who are sitting in 10th spot. The Mounties are coming off the back of a tough 46-14 loss to the Jets last round, so will be looking to bounce back this weekend.

Mounties winger Tuipulotu Katoa has been in good form for his side, scoring a try in each of the last three games, while hooker Josh Daley has been a tackling machine making over 30 tackle in the last five games.

The two sides met back in round five, with the Raiders recording a 30-16 win.

The Raiders Jersey Flegg team head to Melbourne to take on the Victoria Thunderbolts on Sunday at AAMI Park as a curtain raiser to the Raiders v Storm NRL match.

The side's three game winning streak came to an end last weekend at the hands of the Sydney Roosters, going down 40-14.

The Raiders have named the same side as last week, with Josh Allen starting prop and Clay Webb in the second row.

The two sides met back in round five in what was a thrilling game in Wagga Wagga. The Raiders had a 30-4 lead before the Thunderbolts staged a comeback to level the scores at 30-30. But the Raiders were able to stop the opposition's momentum and tries to Josh Smith and Rayden Burns sealed a 40-30 win.

The Raiders currently sit in seventh place on the ladder, while the Thunderbolts are two wins behind in tenth place.

The green machine will need a win this weekend to help maintain their spot in the top eight.
