From a photo to large-scale replica: The Journey of the Vegas Viking Horn

When the Canberra Raiders were announced as one of the four teams travelling to Las Vegas this year, it resulted in a lot of planning.

Getting players and staff over to the other side of the world, organising training venues, gear, events, the list goes on.

And of course, somehow getting the famous Viking Horn to Allegiant Stadium for the round one clash.

240 hours of print time, one week of modelling and one week of prep, prime and paint later and the Viking Horn is ready to take pride of place at Allegiant Stadium and kick off the Viking Clap for the first time in 2025.

The Raiders engaged with a US creative agency called DBD: The Studio, who are based in Las Vegas, for the project.

The project started with a high-resolution photograph of the horn, which served as the foundation for digital reconstruction.

Through state of the art 3D modeling software, DBD: The Studio crafted a virtual model that was then used as the basis for the 3D printing process.

Using an industrial grade printer, materials such as durable resin and composite filaments were used to create the Viking Horn. The Horn was then sanded, painted and finished off to create the final product.

It has been quite the process but all will be worth it when the Viking Horn is proudly displayed at Allegiant Stadium and welcomes out the team as they take to the field for the Warriors clash.
