Key matchup
Sophie Holyman v Elsie Albert
Both forces on the field, these two girls are no stranger to a hard hit up. Holyman and Albert are both key players of their respective sides as they look to control the middle of the field.
Holyman has been a reliable and consistent player for the Raiders side, having worn the green jersey since 2023 and locked in until 2027.
Her strong attacking ability brings her opposition closer to the centre so the Raiders’ playmakers can run out wide, creating scoring opportunities. She is the powerhouse of the Raiders forward pack with a 92% tackle efficiency last season, making 245 tackles along the way. Already in the first two games of the season Holyman has made 54 tackles and only missed six.
She’s also known as a vocal leader, rallying her teammates to hold a strong defensive line. Her experience representing Queensland in the State of Origin arena has seen her go up against the best in the game, continually sharpening her skillset.
Meanwhile, Albert’s powerful presence on the field is defined by her aggressive and explosive style of play. Her quick thinking and speed around the ruck make her a valuable asset to the Eels, particularly when playing the ball.
Last season, she recorded a tackle efficiency of 93%, showcasing her strong defensive capabilities. Her attacking skills were also on display with 474 post contact metres and 49 tackle breaks.
Albert’s international experience also shapes her game. As captain of Papua New Guinea’s national team, she demonstrated strong leadership, guiding her side to victories over both Canada and Brazil.
The prop who gains the upper hand this week could shift the balance of territory and possession. It promises to be a physical battle when they face off this Saturday.
