Raiders extend Ata Mariota until end of 2028

The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders are delighted to announce that Ata Mariota has signed a two-year extension with the club.

The new deal will see Mariota remain at the club until the end of the 2028 season.

Making his debut in rare fashion, Mariota was activated as an 18th man for his first taste of NRL against the Panthers in round 21 of the 2022 season.

Now having played 87 NRL games for the Green Machine, the robust front-rower has established himself as one of the Raiders’ most consistent forwards on a weekly basis.

Mariota was stoked to continue his career at the Canberra Raiders, a place which has become home.

“I’m so happy to re-sign here. Canberra is home now and this club has given me everything. I just want to re-pay that as best I can,” Mariota said.

Aged just 24, Mariota is primed to continue his development after learning off premier forwards Josh Papalii and Joe Tapine.

“I’m so lucky to be learning off Papa and Taps. I just pick their brains and take anything I can out of their games into mine,” Mariota said.

Raiders NRL Recruitment Manager Chris Hutchison was excited to re-sign Mariota and sees him as an important part of the club’s future.

“Ata is a valued member of our NRL squad and has become an important part of our club. He is a hard-working, dynamic forward who has developed into an international player and will continue to grow at the Raiders,” Hutchison said.

“Ata is also another player who has come through our pathways, playing SG Ball back in 2019 and came through the Cup and Flegg systems before establishing himself as an NRL forward,” Hutchison said.
