The Toyota Forklifts Canberra Raiders Cup and Flegg sides were defeated by Cronulla and Newtown in Sydney on the weekend.

Knock On Effect NSW Cup

The Raiders NSW Cup side went down 42-30 in a tight defeat to Newtown Jets at Henson Park on Saturday afternoon.

Newtown set the tone early, scoring five tries inside the opening 25 minutes to surge to a 30-6 lead.

Canberra responded quickly, scoring three tries in the space of nine minutes through Sione Finau, Chevy Stewart and Jalen Afamasaga to trail just 30-24 at half-time.

The scoreboard slowed down in the second half, with a back-and-forth action. But Newtown ultimately kicked away, taking the tight 12-point victory.

Jersey Flegg Cup

The Raiders Jersey Flegg Cup side were defeated 36-16 at Ocean Protect Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was a tight opening half, with both sides trading four-pointers before heading into the sheds with a 18-16 Cronulla lead.

However, the points dried up for Canberra as the home side kicked away with three second half tries to down the Raiders.

The Raiders will return home to face the Eels at Seiffert Oval on Saturday afternoon for their final game of the season.
