It was an enjoyable Easter weekend for the Raiders’ junior representative sides as both teams registered emphatic wins against the North Sydney Bears.
SG Ball
Canberra 58 (Q Cannon 3, D Clark 2, S Schmidt, D Keir, M Lyons, D Litster, S Kris, J Simbiken tries; L Cooper 7 goals) def North Sydney 10 (L Williams, S Sabuet tries; A Carling goal)
The Raiders’ SG Ball side entered their match against the Bears hoping for a change in results. Losses in their last three games left the club sitting outside the top eight for the first time this season with only three rounds before finals.
The under-18s team responded positively, running rampant against the Bears. Scoring 11 tries in the process, the flurry of points mean the Raiders move back to 8th place on for and against.
Harold Matthews
Canberra 62 (J Church 3, K Taiseni 2, L Evestson 2, H Smith-Shields 2, D Goowdin, T Brooke, T Eldridge tries; K Jenson 6, C Woolford goals) def North Sydney 0
After last week’s loss to the Eels, who are undefeated this season, the Raiders bounced back in style. The under-16s managed to outscore their elder counterparts scoring 12 tries against the Bears while also managing to keep them scoreless.
With two weeks left until finals, the Raiders are sitting in sixth place on an incredibly congested ladder. The Harold Matthews side takes on the eighth-placed Panthers next week in a game that could determine if they take part in finals football.
