Women in League - Junior Development

Female Rugby League is growing rapidly, in fact it contributes to some of the game’s best growth numbers.

To meet the growth in female Rugby League, the Canberra Raiders have been busy developing programs to help girls who want to play Rugby League at the highest level.

Development programs currently include squads for girls aged 16 and 17 years. The Canberra Region Rugby League and the Canberra Raiders have over 40 girls in training as Development players.

The girls are participating in a skills and education program linked to NSW Rugby League Lisa Fiaola Cup carnival scheduled to take place in September.

The carnival will bring together girls from across all of NSW to compete in a two day event. It is an early look at representative Rugby League for the girls on a large scale.

The Lisa Fiaola competition for under 16/17 aged girls helps prepare the best of them for the under 18/19 Tarsha Gale Cup competition as part of the NSWRL Junior Representative season.

The Canberra Raiders have been part of the Tarsha Gale cup competition since its introduction in 2017. The girls have access to a purpose built gym as well as one of our premium playing venues at Raiders Belconnen.

Canberra’s Tarsha Gale program encompasses all eligible girls from our wider footprint including girls from the Riverina and Monaro areas too.

We are excited to see the growth in the women’s game and we plan to continue to be part of it into the future.
