Katrina Fanning Shield: Round 12 Preview

The Katrina Fanning Shield is coming toward the business end of the season, with everything to play for as clubs prepare for the final three rounds of the regular season.

Woden Valley Rams v Goulburn City Bulldogs, Phillip Oval, Saturday 30th July at 9:30am

In what looks to be a defining game in the race for the top two, Woden will be looking to continue their recent run of winning form with a win over Goulburn on Saturday.

The Bulldogs knocked off the Rams 32-16 earlier this season, where the Woden side will be keen to flip the script come Saturday.

The Rams only two losses this year have come against the top two sides in the competition, where they’ll be looking to re-group ahead of finals.

Meanwhile the Bulldogs will be keen to just get out on the field, having not played since their round 11 loss to league leaders Yass Magpies.

Before that defeat, the side had been on a seven-game win streak, including their victory over Woden in round four.

It is shaping to be a cracking matchup between the pair, with both sides keen to get a win over a likely finals’ opponent.

Queanbeyan Blues v UC Stars, Seiffert Oval, Saturday 30th July at 10:45am

With both sides fresh off a bye, the Queanbeyan Blues and the UC Stars will renew their rivalry this weekend when they face off for the second time in three weeks.

Their clash at magic round ended in a comfortable 60-0 win for the Blues, helping to keep the side firmly in the hunt for a top two finish.

Payge-Louise Condon was at her scintillating best that morning and will be looking to continue that form this weekend, alongside current competition leading try-scorer Klaudia Osztrenkovics.

The Stars suffered from injuries in that recent clash against the Blues, with the side now fresh off their bye.

They will be determined to put on a pleasing display away from home, looking to turn the tides on a strong Queanbeyan side.

It is shaping to be a big match at Seiffert Oval, as both sides look to secure vital wins in the context of their seasons.

Yass Magpies v Harden Worhawks, Walker Park, Saturday 30th July at 12pm

The Yass Magpies will be looking to keep their unbeaten season intact this weekend when they come up against the Harden Worhawks on Saturday.

With both teams not playing last weekend, they will be keen to be back out on the field, with Yass ready to show why they are deservedly viewed as favourites to take out the Katrina Fanning Shield.

After two forfeits over the past fortnight, the side will be ready to get back to business with just three rounds remaining.

Yass had a comfortable 20-nil victory against the second placed Goulburn City Bulldogs in their last outing and will look to hold their undefeated streak this season.

The Worhawks will be keen to spoil the party, aiming to make amends for their 58-0 loss to the Magpies back in round eight.

It has been a tough season so far for the side, having not won since their round six defeat over the Boomanulla Raiders.

With three rounds remaining of the regular season the team will be looking to end it on a high, with a good performance against the high-flying magpies sure to do that.

This round will prove a huge opportunity for both teams, with a win potentially sealing the minor premiership for the Magpies if results fall their way this weekend.

South Coast United v Boomanulla Raiders, Mackay Park, Sunday 31st July at 12:45pm

South Coast United will be looking to fight their way into a top five position this weekend, as they host the Boomanulla Raiders.

The Marlins haven’t taken the field since their round 10 win against the UC Stars and will be keen to string some football together before the finals commence in three weeks’ time.

South Coast are tied on the competition ladder with the fifth-placed Tuggeranong side, with only a for and against of 12 points being the difference.

Considering the Bushies have the bye this weekend before they face off in round 13, this round could prove to be one of the most important matches of the Marlins season.

The Boomanulla Raiders will instead be looking to record their first win of 2022, with their recent match against South Coast proving that they have the potential to pull off an upset.

They went down 32-9 in that clash and will be looking to build off the lessons that they learnt from the fixture.

It should be a great match of rugby league on Sunday afternoon, with both teams determined to get an important win on the board.
