Katrina Fanning Shield: Week One Finals Wrap

The first weekend of the Katrina Fanning Shield finals series is in the books with the Blues and Bulldogs picking up convincing wins, while the Worhawks defeated UC to advance into the division two grand final.

Goulburn City Bulldogs 34 d Woden Valley Rams 22

The Goulburn City Bulldogs have booked a clash with the number one side in the Katrina Fanning Shield after defeating Woden Valley by 12 points at Raiders Belconnen on Saturday.

The Rams started strong, jumping out to 16-4 lead after 20 minutes but the Bulldogs reeled them back in the latter part of the half to trail by only six points at the break.

Goulburn started the second half where they left off scoring three straight tries to balloon their lead out to 34-22.

Goulburn will take on Yass this Saturday whilst the Rams take on the Blues in an elimination final.

Queanbeyan Blues 64 d Tuggeranong Bushrangers 0

The Queanbeyan Blues have made a statement with their 64-point thrashing of the Bushrangers, advancing through to the semi-finals of the Katrina Fanning Shield competition.

In a lopsided game, the Blues piled on the points, recording 11 tries across the match.

Blues trio Cailah Welch, Lily Croker and Klaudia Osztrenkovics recorded hat tricks in the victory and will be keen to reproduce something similar in the next stage of the finals.

This loss for Tuggeranong means the end of their season after an impressive month of footy to cement the fifth position on the ladder.

However, the Blues will advance to the semi's to take on Woden who they previously met in the curtain raiser to the Women's State of Origin.

Harden Worhawks 42 d UC Stars 4

The Harden Worhawks have advanced through to the division two grand final where they will face South Coast United after a convincing 38-point win over the UC Stars on Saturday.

The Worhawks were impressive from siren to siren, running in eight tries to UC’s one.

Halfback Hunter Ings was outstanding for the visitors registering three tries and kicking four conversions.

Mollie Hogan was also strong in the victory recording two tries along with Chloe Wade, Ua Ravu and Abbie Grant who each scored one.

It will be a fairly even matchup between Harden and South Coast who will be looking for some recognition of a great season with a division two grand final victory.
