Raiders NSW Cup side secure first win of season

The Raiders have secured their first win of the NSW Cup season with a 47-24 victory over the Western Suburbs Magpies at GIO Stadium on Saturday night.

It was a very high scoring match with 71 total match point being scored with Harry Rushton and Sam Williams both crossing over for two tries each.

It didn't take long for the Raiders to score the first points of the match, a damaging run and offload by Ryan Sutton set up fellow forward Harry Rushton to score the first try of the match in the third minute.

The conversion was successful by the returning Jarrod Croker to give the Raiders an early 6-0 lead.

The Magpies were able to respond fairly quickly after capitalising from a Raiders error with Rua Ngatikaura scoring off a scoot from the scrum under the post to tie the game up at six all with the help of a successful conversion by Ben Stevanovic.

The Raiders did the same in the 15th minute after a costly error from the Magpies set up a scrum play to the right which set up Brad Morkos to put the Raiders back in front 10-6.

The Raiders extended their lead in the 23rd minute, capitalising off the back of a penalty with Harry Rushton crossing over for his second with an assist from hooker Adrian Trevilyan in the 23rd minute, Croker was able to convert to give the Raiders a 16-6 lead.

The Magpies hit back in the 32nd minute after winger William Kei performed a one on one strip on the Raiders goal line to cross over for the Magpies second try of the match.

Another successful conversion by Stevanovic brought the score to 16-12 in favour of the home side.

The Raiders hit straight back in the 36th minute after Sam Wiliams was able to score off his own chip kick with an assist from Utuloa Asomua who batted the ball back to Williams, Croker converted the try and pushed the Raiders lead to 10 points.

The Magpies were able to recover a short kick off attempt with the ball bouncing into touch, however after an error and an offside penalty the Raiders would end the half with a field goal from Sam Williams giving the homeside a 23-12 lead at halftime.

The second half didn't start great for the green machine after an error gifted the Magpies a chance to attack their line in the first minute of the half,

The Magpies capitalised after Rua Ngatikaura crossed over for his second try of the match in the 42nd minute, Stevanovic was able to convert and bring the score back to within one converted try.

However the Raiders would only have to wait until the 49th minute to score their first try of the second half after a beautiful dummy half run by Adrian Trevilyan saw him score his first try of the match and extend the Raiders lead to 29-18.

William Kei scored his second try of the match for the Magpies and Stevanovic kept his perfect conversion rate to bring the score back to within a converted try.

Sam Williams crossed over for his second try of the night in the 63rd minute, Croker converted and pushed the Raiders out to a 35-24 lead.

Trey Mooney would score the Raiders seventh try of the match off a crash ball  from Adrian Trevilyan in the 68th minute and pushed the home team's lead out to 41-24.

Jack Sandford would score a runaway try and another conversion from Croker on full time to secure the Raiders first win of 2022 in NSW Cup with a 47-24 victory.
